MOVING AWAY FROM HOMELESSNESS STARTS HERE

"The mission of Project Homeless Connect is to
connect San Franciscans experiencing homelessness
with the care they need to move forward."
In 2004, the San Francisco Department of Public Health created Project Homeless Connect as a way to bring necessary services to the homeless. Because of Project Homeless Connect, a person experiencing homelessness is able to obtain as many services in one day as would otherwise take months. During each outreach event, corporations, nonprofits, and government agencies provide PHC and its participants with services such as dental care, medical care, mental health services, prescription glasses, HIV testing, housing assistance, food, legal advice, California identification cards, voice mail accounts, employment counseling/job placement, wheelchair repair, addiction services, and more.
Many of us at A Close-Knit Community have volunteered at PHC events. The most recent PHC outreach event (PHC 62) was held
on March 23, 2016 at the Bill Graham Auditorium. Throughout the day, more than 1,300 clients were provided free access to
a staggering variety of services. Among the many stations at PHC's outreach events is the Podiatry/Foot Care clinic, an area where A Close-Knit Community's Michele Foster has volunteered for years. After seeing the difference that a clean pair of socks can make in the life of a homeless person
, Michele inspired us to reach out to our network of friends and neighbors, who have helped us collect more than 1,200 pairs of socks to distribute at PHC outreach events since last April. Almost anyone can sign-up as a PHC volunteer, with opportunities available beyond the quarterly outreach events. Visit the PHC website's Volunteer section for more information on how you can get involved.

Make the next steps for our homeless neighbors a little easier by bringing new socks to the Jazz in the Basement concert.
All donated socks will be distributed at the next Project Homeless Connect outreach event in June (date TBD).

Since April 2015, patrons of Jazz in the Basement have donated more than 1,200 pairs of socks to Project Homeless Connect, bringing a small measure of warmth, comfort, and hope to hundreds of homeless men, women, and children.
